Becoming a Volunteer

Step One

   Request MWBC Disaster Relief volunteer packet of forms
   Return completed, signed forms to MWBC Disaster Relief Directors (see address on the front page of packet)
   A returned, completed packet is required to be on file for each volunteer and will enter your name in database of interested volunteers
   Receive periodic newsletter/updates via email

Step Two

   Attend MWBC Disaster Relief Orientation Training Class:  "Involving Southern Baptists in Disaster Relief"

   Attend ARC Class or complete On-line Self-study:  ARC #3066 "Introduction to Disaster Services"  at  www.redcross.org/flash/course01_v01/

           or follow these steps: www.redcross.org ; on left of screen press Volunteer; press "View Introduction to Disaster Services"

Step Three

   Complete MWBC Disaster Relief Classroom Training for Specific Unit(s) of Your Choosing

  • Feeding Unit
  • Disaster Relief Temporary Child Care Unit
  • Chaplaincy Unit
  • Chain Saw Unit
  • Mud-Out Unit
  • Shower/Laundry Unit
   Complete MWBC Disaster Relief Hands-On Training for Specific Unit(s) of Your Choosing
 
       Some Units Require Additional, Specialized Training:
 
                Disaster Relief Temporary Child Care Unit
                    ♦ First Aid and CPR (for adults, children, and infants)
                    ♦ Background Check Required
 
                Chaplaincy Unit
                    ♦ Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) or National Organization for Victim Assistance (NOVA) Training
 

Additional Information

     Upon completion of these steps, each volunteer will received a yellow DR hat and ID badge which is the official uniform.

     A refresher training "Involving Southern Baptists in Disaster Relief" is required every three years.
